On Tuesday, January 30, a high school student notified the high school administration that another student told him that he had a bomb in his backpack. The administration removed the student and backpack from class and it was immediately determined that there was no bomb in the backpack. The student was then questioned and the student denied that the statement was made. Other students who were reported to be standing next to the student who made the statement confirmed that the statement was not made. The Wilder Police Department was contacted and it was turned over to them for a thorough investigation based upon a potential threatening statement.
The administration took additional precautions and evacuated the building and moved the mid/high students to the cafeteria until a police dog had cleared the building. Parents were notified by school messenger that the mid/high students were evacuated to Mercer gym, that everyone was safe, and that students would return back to school shortly. Additional precautions were made by limiting elementary access to the playground. After the police department notified administration that nothing was found, all students were allowed to return to the appropriate learning environments. Parents were notified by school messenger that the school lockdown had been cleared and classes were back in session with more details to follow in the next couple of days.
