Second Annual Wilder Middle/High School Gingerbread Project
The Wilder High School culinary classes sponsored the Second Annual Holiday Gingerbread Project on December 11th, 2015. Each culinary student assembled and decorated a house; additionally there were 9 teams comprised of middle and high school students who as teams assembled and decorated houses. The culinary students made the gingerbread dough from scratch in class, cut out the house pieces and baked the sets off. The sets were then given to the teams and individual culinary students.
The yearbook class students came over to the Mercer cafeteria where the assembly took place and shot photos of students working together with adults who became the students’ “assistants”, with a great time being had by all. Special thanks to Ms. Hoover, Ms. Rodwell, Ms. Hernandez, Ms. Aguilera, Ms. Tuttle and culinary student Danny Sanchez for facilitating and assisting in various capacities.
First place honors went to the seniors for their effort along with a gift certificate donated by Matteson’s for a large pizza of their choice. Bragging rights for second and third place went to sophomores and juniors, respectively. ~Samantha Unger, Culinary Instructor
Wilder Culinary Program: Community Success!!!
Wilder High School Culinary students prepared and served the Senior Citizens for their monthly luncheon on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at the Chula Vista Meeting Room. The menu included Shepherd’s Pie, hot rolls, fruit and a variety of cookies. Each student selected a recipe, mixed their ingredients and baked the cookies. The menu served was Wednesday’s offering to the student body.
The students enjoyed participating in the event and gained some hospitality experience as well as the baking evaluation.
